ENGINE CONTROL COMPUTER

The Computer receives information from a network of sensors and switches that convert engine operating conditions into electronic signals.  Based on information and instructions strored in the computer program, commands are sent to three primary systems.

  • Ignition System
  • Fuel System
  • Emission Control System

The need for service in the three primary systems is indicated by "driveability" problems such as
rough running, low fuel economy, or failure to pass an exhaust emission test. Additionally, most
computer control systems have their own diagnostic systems, which constantly monitor operations.  If a problem is detected, a light on the dashboard is illuminated (Check Engine, Power Loss, etc.).

The sensors that monitor one or more of these systems include:

  • Mass Airflow Sensor
  • Throttle Position Sensor
  • Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor
  • Coolant Temperature Sensor
  • Exhaust Oxygen Sensor
  • Crankshaft Position Sensor
  • Camshaft Position Sensor

Key Benefits

  • Vehicle Dependability
  • Better Fuel Economy
  • Piece of Mind
